Basic idea of slot antenna

I'm building a bumper mounted antenna tower, EMT with some square tube. Earlier today I stumbled across an article on 2 meter slot antennas cut in to satellite dishes. Literature is repetitive either directed towards that subject or TV and UHF broadcasting. I like the idea of a Dipole analogue that doesn't look like an antenna... Basic Antenna Theory - Wireless connected to one side of the slot, and the outside conductor of the cable - to the other side of the slot. – The slot length is some (λ/2) for the slot antenna and (λ/4) long for the INF antenna. • The INF and the slot antennas behave similarly. • The slot antenna can be considered as a loaded version of the INF antenna.

A New Method for the Design of Slot Antenna Arrays: Theory ... propose optimization-based algorithms for slot antenna arrays [7]. These methods, however, are too complicated and appear to be cumbersome to realize. The basic idea in Elliot [3], [6] was to consider each half-wavelength waveguide section with one slot as a basic “slot module” with variable load impedance attached to it. Slot Antenna Slot antennas are used typically at frequencies between 300 MHz and 24 GHz. The slot antenna is popular because they can be cut out of whatever surface they are to be mounted on, and have radiation patterns that are roughly omnidirectional (similar to a linear wire antenna, as we'll see). The polarization of the slot antenna is linear. Basic Slot Antenna and Its Complementary Dipole - Neets 3-17 Basic Slot Antenna and Its Complementary Dipole The slot antenna consists of a radiator formed by cutting a narrow slot in a large metal surface. Such an antenna is shown in figure 3-18. The slot length is a half wavelength at the desired frequency and the width is a small fraction of a wavelength. Slot antenna - Wikipedia

Radar Basics - Slot Antennas Slot Antenna. The feeding of the slot antenna can be done with ordinary two-wire line. The impedance is dependent on the feeding point, as in a dipole. The value of 485 ω applies only to a feeding point at the center. A shift of the feed point from the center to the edge steadily decreases the impedance. Basic Slot Antenna and Its Complementary Dipole - Neets With the slot antenna, the magnetic lines are horizontal and the electric lines are vertical. The electric lines are built up across the narrow dimensions of the slot. As a result, the polarization of the radiation produced by a horizontal slot is vertical. If a vertical slot is used, the polarization is horizontal. Chapter 8 Slot Antennas - eetrend.com

The older RSGB VHF-UHF Manual, the one by Jessop, has several skeleton slot antennas described in it. Now the skeleton slot uses vertical rods for the basic antenna rather than a cylinder as in the one you describe. However, the principle is the same and they are an effective antenna. Glen, K9STH Chapter 5 Impedance of Slot Antennas 5.1 Introduction Impedance of Slot Antennas 5.1 Introduction The characterization an antenna requires knowledge of the input impedance looking into the antenna from the detector. This includes the associated feed network used to connect the detector or receiver circuit to the antenna. In this chapter we IEEE ANTENNAS AND WIRELESS PROPAGATION LETTERS, VOL. 10, 2011 ...
